Riding and Serving – FondoCross – Pace lines and serving.

Riding and Serving – FondoCross – Pace lines and serving.

Many wonder how riding bicycles and serving Christ go together. I have found that riding and serving go together very well and there is great synergy between the two just like the amazing energy of a pace line. A pace line at its simplest form is simply a line of riders sharing the front, wind-blocking position while the rest of the line follows and provides energy to the leader. The pace leader changes out the back position as the line continues on. Cycling and introducing Christ became very clear as a 20 plus cycling team clad riders participated in a benefit ride and I was asked many time who is this team? I was even asked more questions the next day when I met one of the questioners at my office locker room after my morning commute.

One if not the most important aspects of FondoCross is utilizing cycling to introduce and stimulate the conversation of Christ. While our key benefiting ministry is supporting church planting in South Asian Area of West London FondoCross looks for the opportunity to share Christ in all that we do. As FondoCross continues to develop I pray that the gift of riding will be utilized to introduce many more to Christ. These introductions may come at many points form training rides, State Side gatherings or even the Gran Fondo from Edinburgh to London, either way I pray that the our togetherness focused on Him will point others to Him.

FondoCross for many reasons has re-scheduled the first group ride to July 2011. The feedback on this scheduling change is already strong. The application for all wanting to participate is at http://www.pondcross.org/Application.pdf . The organizers are making a Planning and Prayer Ride in October of 2010 giving them an awesome opportunity to report on the ride.

That is correct, Don Lawler one of the cyclist who will ride from Edinburgh to London supporting church planting in 2010 will cycle up to 200 miles to present the ministry of planting churches or cycling in support of planting churches. All I need is time to plan and place to cleanup for the presentation. Supporting the ministry and in honor of the cycling we ask that pledge of one dollar per mile be pledged toward the ministry.

Most importantly is team of cyclist cycling to support the planting of churches. That is correct, FondoCross is cycling with its first major ride being 5 – 11 July 2010 from Edinburgh to London and Beyond. Each of the cyclists on the ride will be riding to support the physical needs of churches being planted at the end of the ride.

Seriously, contact Don Lawler at
don@pondcross.org and lets plan on a presentation or plan on riding.

Cycling and all that goes with cycling for the Cross.

Cycling and all that goes with cycling for the Cross.

After years away from cycling and never really serious about cycling I started cycling not for the typical reasons of saving money or improving health but because I could. After easing into it I am now nearly committed to cycling as I am in my faith. Today with my faith and my commitment to cycling the two must exist together which leads me down the avenue of FondoCross. Fondo for those whom don’t know is a term from Europe referring to endurance style bicycle riding and Cross refers directly my faith as a Christian. Oh yes, the health and financial benefits have also appeared.

I seek to cycle at almost any opportunity as they present themselves. Cycling 34 miles daily while commuting at least four days a week is something that I enjoy, while I also enjoy encouraging others into cycling. Just this week great enjoyment came while transporting five bicycles of differing styles to church for an organized ride after each of the bike received some maintenance from new tires to adjustments.

Organizing FondoCross2010 is on my mind a lot. FondoCross2010 is a wonderful ride from Edinburgh to London and Beyond 5 – 11 July 2010 where many cyclists will gather to ride from St. Giles Cathedral to Westminster Abby then to an active mission field near Heathrow Airport. Along with the other organizers we are planning a fun ride with great purposes. This ride's goal is to support the fiscal and physical needs for outreach and service in the area with a large first and second generation immigrant population. The goal is to provide one Pound Sterling for each mile ridden.

You are invited to join us or at lean more and possibly support us.

Support the Ride -
While the riders in this event will enjoy some the greatest history and scenery Please know that riding 400 plus miles will hurt. We invite all to participate in our pain. The participating riders are dedicated. Supporters may send their support in Great Britain Pounds or U.S. Dollars to address to be posted soon.
Ride the ride -
